Shame Resilience
Sunrise employs a method championed by the brilliant Brené Brown called The Daring Way™.
We know that each of our students suffers from shame in one way or another. In order to create lasting change, it is vital that they learn to change their negative self-talk and learn skills to build shame resilience. Each student participates in Shame Resilience Group weekly while at Sunrise.
Shame Resilience groups help students:
Recognize shame triggers and physical responses to shame.
Practice critical awareness of their shame and expectations they place on themselves.
How to share their shame in a healthy, therapeutic way.
How to show self-compassion.
Make a plan for how to react to shame in the future.
“Willingness to show up changes us, it makes us a little braver each time… Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance.”
-Brene Brown
